Michelle Witzke

Founder & Community Connections Coordinator

Tammy joined The Vault staff in October of 2019. Previously, she worked as a literacy specialist and ESL teacher for Richland Community College. Prior to that, she served as the theatre director for both Clinton High School and Decatur Christian School. Her love for teaching, teens, and telling people what to do have found a perfect home in her position as Executive Director at The Vault. Oh, and she loves jelly donuts, dogs, dark chocolate, and alliteration.

Michelle is a former secondary school teacher, coach, and social worker from Michigan. In 2017 she resigned from her position at a Decatur homeless shelter to focus her attention wholeheartedly on The Vault. Besides her love for teens, Michelle is passionate about her family, faith, fierce but friendly competition, healthy living, and inspiring a sense of worth and purpose in every person. She is renowned for the smoke detector alarm inviting her family to dinner.

Jason Kitson

Program Director

Jason was one of the first supporters of The Vault way back in 2016 when The Vault was just getting started. He joined our staff in the summer of 2021 alongside his wife, McKenna. What a full circle moment! When Jason isn't planning our awesome programs, he likes to spend his time watching a good movie (Marvel all the way), spending time with his family and friends, or playing outside with his two dogs. He's also our chess expert. Challenge him at a game at your own risk.

McKenna Kitson

Marketing and Program Planning Director

McKenna joined The Vault in the summer of 2021  alongside her husband, Jason. McKenna grew up near by in Rochester, IL and loves the commUNITY here in Clinton. When she's not managing our marketing and hanging out with our students, McKenna can be found with a paintbrush in hand and hundreds of DIY ideas in mind. She's a big fan of her two pups and can be won over with yummy coffee, ice cream or anything chocolate (in case anyone is wondering).

Wendy became involved with The Vault in 2017 as a volunteer on the fundraising committee and later joined the staff in the summer of 2019.  Wendy is married with four children, two dogs, and one cat. When she is not homeschooling her two youngest, she enjoys sitting on the veranda, sipping tea, and eating scones while scrolling Facebook for cat videos.

Kaitlin Burton

Programming Assistant

Kaitlin is a Freshman at Illinois State University who has recently begun working at The Vault's new Program Assistant! She is no stranger to The Vault as she was very involved during her high school years serving as a Student Ambassador, cafe volunteer, and Student Cafe Manager. We are so excited to welcome her back to assist us with our program set-up, clean up, and everything in between!

Carter Bugner

Golden Gears Café Student Manager

Carter Bugner is a senior at Clinton High School.

He has been attending The Vault since it opened and even volunteered during our building renovation phase! He is great at connecting with students and can solve a Rubik's Cube like no other! If he's not behind The Golden Gears Cafe counter serving students, he can be found practicing his Russian and listening to his favorite music.
